If you are also interested in buying the Dehumidifier for your gun safe, this blog post will help you a lot in making your purchase decision worthy. Let’s start reading!

Types of tools used for dehumidifying

There are two types of tools used to eliminate humidity from gun safes: Desiccants and Dehumidifiers.

Desiccants

Desiccants will absorb water vapor, eventually breaking down if it has too much moisture inside to start with. This is why there is what’s called a “load limit.”

A desiccant bag can only hold so much water before it saturates itself beyond usefulness. We do not recommend using desiccants in your gun safe because once they go bad, you have no idea when that will happen, plus empty ones could be dangerous if handled.

A desiccant also needs to “activate” itself, meaning it will work properly once you expose the material to what’s called “humidity conditions.” Activation means the chemical inside reacts to the water vapor in the air causing it to break down and absorb any moisture.

Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers are called “mechanical” devices. They have moving parts inside that turn the power on and off at set intervals, which works like an artificial day/night cycle that dries out the air.

The Dehumidifier is the best way to reduce humidity from gun safe, so in this blog post, we explain Dehumidifier. What is the size of the dehumidifier rod is used depends on many factors that are described below.

What Size Dehumidifier Rod For Gun Safe

Size of dehumidifier rod for gun safe:

A basic rule of thumb for sizing its [a pistol/gun] optimal humidity range is 40% relative humidity. This means that if you have a larger-sized gun safe, you should invest in a higher watt.

A person could use the 2.5-inch diameter rod; this would work well in most cases. It has an adjustable damper to control how much air comes into the safe.

Keep in mind, if you have a larger-sized gun safe, you should invest in a higher watt number which means it will be bigger and better for this job.

If you have a 4″ diameter rod, it would be best to invest in a big size. But using 5″ or 6″ diameter rods are not recommended because they will run continuously, shortening their lives.

Methods of Dehumidify the gun safe

Gun safe dehumidifier is used to lower the humidity of gun safe. This method is recommended to avoid corrosion in a gun safe. Here are some methods to use a dehumidifier in your gun safe:

Using Silica Gel

The first method is using silica gel inside the safe with guns and other valuable items. Silica gel works as a moisture absorbent material that will prevent rust from forming on your firearm.

But, if you leave it too wet, it can create a dusty mess and make your items less desirable for future purchases through damage caused by rust or mold growth. It also requires replacement every year, depending on how quickly it becomes saturated with water vapors.

Using Battery-powered Dehumidifier

The second method is using a battery-powered dehumidifier. This method is good because it can be placed in your gun safe without any environmental or electrical interferences.

The only problem with this method is that you should recharge the batteries regularly for one to six hours, depending on the humidity level inside your safe.

Using ultrasonic Dehumidifier

The third method is using an ultrasonic dehumidifier inside your gun safe. It’s still unknown how often you need to replace its water-absorbing beads. After every few months, cleaning the interior may be needed to avoid a sooty residue buildup from the evaporated moisture.

Some models are made to run constantly when plugged into an AC power outlet, while others have an auto shut off when they reach full saturation, after which they must be left to dry out for several days.

Using heat-driven Dehumidifier

The fourth method is using a heat-driven dehumidifier that emits warmth into the safe interior. This method is good because it can raise the temperature of your gun safe up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, thus creating an environment that encourages evaporation of moisture inside your safe.

But this method also has its pros and cons. To avoid any damage caused by rust formation due to too low humidity levels, you should keep a hygrometer installed in your gun safe to monitor the humidity level inside the chamber.

So which method is good for you? It depends upon your desired level of dryness or purity of air/environmental convenience. If you want dryness, then method one and method three are the best methods for you.

If you want convenience, then method four is the way to go since it’s easy to use and doesn’t require constant recharging of batteries.

Before taking any final decision about which method you’ll be using to dehumidify your gun safe, make sure that you’ve done good research about these options by reading online posts or asking specialists for advice.

6. You should use a dehumidifier if you store any type of firearm in your home or business because it is one of the best ways to preserve them.

Tips and tricks of using Dehumidifier

The following are some tips and tricks to use a Dehumidifier in a gun safe:

1. use a drill to put holes in the bottom of your gun safe.

2. place the dehumidifier rod through the holes and into the ground.

3. plug in your Dehumidifier to let it work its magic.

4. you’ll be able to tell if it’s working by looking for condensation on both sides of the rod and feeling how dry or damp it is inside your gun safe.

5. if you notice any moisture, unplug and move your dehumidifier rod closer to where there is more water.

6. after a few days, check back again to see if there are still signs of moisture – repeat as needed until all humidity has dissipated from inside your gun safe.

7. The size of your Dehumidifier will depend on how much space you need to cover. There are compact models available which can be placed on shelves or counters, larger units that sit on the floor, and some that come with wheels so you can move them around as needed too.

8.  It would be good to think about how often you want to empty the water container; some models only require emptying every few days, while others might need to be emptied more regularly, depending on their size.

9. Make sure you read all instructions before using a dehumidifier and follow the safety guidelines.

10. Place it on a flat surface where it cannot fall or get knocked over.

11. Don’t put anything near the Dehumidifier that could cause damage if touched by its blades

12. Keep children away from the machine at all times and always watch them when they’re around it.

Conclusion

When you need to dehumidify your gun safe, purchase the appropriate size rod for your unit. A medium-sized rod will work in most units and will remove moisture from every corner of the safe.

Large rods are good for safes with high ceilings or deep shelves; smaller ones can be used on small wall safes that don’t hold many guns. The key is to ensure that no part of any firearm is exposed to too much humidity.
